CLdN has released its 2024 Carbon Report. The report sets out CLdN’s ambitions for reducing its carbon footprint and that of its customers. The reports also provides detailed insight into CLdN’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
Highlights:
- CLdN maintains leadership among peer group for fleet CO2 efficiency
- Over 60% of CLdN’s vessels operate with a Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) of A or B
CLdN today confirmed the placement of an order for 10 newbuild load-on / load-off (LoLo) container vessels with delivery as from January 2027. The large order is a decisive step by CLdN in branching out into the LoLo segment with its own Container Carrier fleet.
The newbuild ships will have a cargo capacity of 1,100 TEU and will complement CLdN’s fleet of more than thirty roll-on / roll-off (RoRo) vessels. The new ships will have outstanding fuel efficiency and an innovative open-top design to allow reduced port handling times.
CLdN today published its fleet emission data for 2023. CLdN’s weighted average fleet emissions were 39g CO2/tonne-km. This was 19% better than CLdN’s next-best performing short sea competitor1 and more than twice as efficient as road transport by heavy goods vehicle2. This directly benefits all CLdN customers and the supply chains they serve by reducing the scope 3 emissions of their cargo.
Today, CLdN announced a further enhancement of its Irish service by allocating an additional load-on / load-off (LoLo) sailing to its Rotterdam – Dublin route. The new service means that CLdN customers will now have three direct LoLo as well as three direct RoRo departures per week from both Rotterdam and Dublin. CLdN is the only operator providing this level of service between mainland Europe and Ireland. The additional LoLo service will be deployed from 30th August at CLdN’s Distriport terminal in Rotterdam.
This weekend CLdN opened the new access gate to its London terminal in Purfleet, UK. This two-year, multimillion-pound project will significantly improve access to the terminal for customers and deliver on commitments with the local authorities to divert terminal traffic away from residential areas.
CLdN today announced the start of a multimillion-pound investment in its Brocklebank terminal at the Port of Liverpool. These investments are part of CLdN’s plans to increase capacity on its Liverpool-Dublin route.
The infrastructure upgrades at the terminal will improve the use of space and enhance the flow of cargo movements while a new gate set-up, improved drivers’ facilities and new terminal operating system will increase efficiency and lead to an improved customer experience for dropping off and picking up cargo.
CLdN is pleased to announce that it has become an official partner of the information technology school, Campus 19.
Campus 19 is an innovative coding school where students develop their skills through collaborative learning, project-based training and gamification. This innovative approach which involves no teachers or classroom learning, is accessible to anyone over 18 who wants to start a career in computer science. Campus 19 is based in Antwerp and Brussels and is part of the 42 network with 20,000 students in 54 campuses across 31 countries.
CLdN and Transfennica are pleased to announce a connection of their shipping services in Zeebrugge to provide customers with broader connections through Northern and Western Europe. Transfennica’s Northern Baltic service between Antwerp and the ports of Hanko, Kotka, Rauma (Finland) and Paldiski (Estonia) will call at CLdN’s Albert II terminal in Zeebrugge every other Thursday enabling the exchange of northbound and southbound cargo. The first call is scheduled for Thursday 25th July.
CLdN today announced the launch of new services between Rotterdam and Ireland. CLdN has chartered two 962 TEU lift-on / lift-off (LoLo) cargo vessels (M/V Pavo J and M/V Andromeda J) that will ship container cargo between the recently acquired Distriport terminal in Rotterdam and Dublin and Cork. The introduction of the new LoLo services will also enable an optimisation of CLdN’s roll-on / roll-off (RoRo) fleet deployment, thereby increasing capacity on the routes between Rotterdam and the UK.
CLdN today announced the acquisition of 100% of the shares in Broekman Distriport Real Estate BV and its 100% subsidiary Broekman Distriport BV.
Distriport occupies a 22-hectare site on the opposite side of Brittanniëhaven from CLdN’s existing Rotterdam terminal. The acquisition offers the scope to further grow and diversify CLdN’s service offering in all three segments currently served at Distriport: roll-on / roll-off (RoRo), load-on / load-off (LoLo), and breakbulk handling.
