Once I completed my Business Administration Apprenticeship, I became a Human Resources Assistant, where I am now upskilling to gain my CIPD People Management Level 5 qualification.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
Working in Human Resources provides a variety of different tasks and responsibilities, meaning each day is different – whether it’s recruitment or various improvement initiatives. I have always enjoyed meeting new people and building positive relationships, so I consider this to be an ideal role. I love being able to support individuals and help them grow within their work environment.
Where do you see your career going in the future?
I am pursuing my CIPD People Management Level 5 qualification, as it will allow me to apply and expand my knowledge in the workplace. I plan to continue my career at CLdN within the Human Resources Department and to further develop my skills and experience.
Would you recommend the apprenticeship to others?
I would highly recommend joining an apprenticeship or graduate programme at CLdN, as they offer the opportunity to work and study in a role that aligns with your goals.

Tell us about yourself when you first joined CLdN
I joined the company as a Graduate Management Trainee, which included placements in different departments around the port. During the rotations, I completed a Level 5 Operations/ Departmental Management course, which allowed me to learn and develop new skills and integrate them into my working day. There have been numerous learning and development opportunities during my time with CLdN including obtaining my IOSH Managing Safely qualification and forklift truck and pallet truck licences.
Tell us about your current role
My current job role is Health and Safety Officer. I will be starting my Level 7 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety management to further develop my skills and understanding.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
In my current role I advise on health and safety in all the different operations of the port. My job includes completing compliance checks on the operational Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work and analyzing safe working practices. I have travelled to both Zeebrugge and Rotterdam to conduct audits of the Cargo Handling Manual and have worked at different CLdN terminals in the UK including Purfleet and Liverpool. I am currently undertaking a six-month secondment to Purfleet where I am gaining experience within the department and further building relationships within the business.
Would you recommend the Graduate Management Traineeship?
Absolutely! The program can kick-start your development as it enables you to apply theory in an operational setting.
